Spirulina microalgae are among the oldest organisms on earth. They have been around for 3.6 billion years.  Viruses, bacteria, and fungi are natural enemies against which these microalgae have developed simple, yet ultra-effective defence mechanisms that have been vital for their survival. For instance, special polysaccharides prevent the entry of viruses into healthy cells.
